How Does Invisalign® Correct Uneven Smiles?

Seattle invisalign

When you have misalignment, this could lead to malocclusion and major complications for the health and beauty of your smile. Correcting your poor alignment can prevent this and help you smile with confidence too! In today’s blog, your Seattle, WA, dentist talks about how we use the clear Invisalign® system to treat misalignment!

The Causes and Risks of Misalignment

Dental misalignment could occur for a number of reasons. For some, this is due to thumb sucking in childhood, or complications with the loss of baby teeth and the arrival of the permanent ones. Complications with the growth of the jaw and oral structures could impact alignment, as could premature tooth loss or injury. Regardless of the cause, lack of treatment could lead to an increased risk of tooth decay, gum disease, TMJ disorder, and even bruxism (teeth grinding). You may also simply avoid showing off your smile in social situations. But with the Invisalign® system, we can offer a cosmetic approach to correcting your uneven teeth.

Creating Your Custom Aligners

Invisalign® corrects your smile with precision and accuracy. This is because each aligner set in the series is custom-made for your smile. To begin, we will take a close look at your smile to assess the cause and extent of your misalignment, so we can decide if this is the right choice for you. If so, we will take detailed digital images of the smile from multiple angles, and then combine these images to create a 3D impression, one far more accurate than a traditional physical one. In a lab setting, experts will use the impressions and measurements to design and fabricate your custom aligners from a BPA-free material, one that is completely clear as well.

The Invisalign® Treatment System

When your aligners are ready, you can start the treatment process. You simply wear a set for about 20 to 22 hours per day, on average, and then do so over a period of about two weeks. When you’re done with this period, you begin wearing the next set in the series, so you can obtain even results over a period of about a year to 18 months. The aligners are easy to clean and use, and you can take them out before meals or even prior to brushing and flossing, so your daily routine isn’t interrupted.
